Zeiss and HMD Global Part Ways

An ongoing partnership between Nokia and Zeiss optics for many years, thanks to a deal made in the day. After a while, we haven’t heard of any Nokia-branded devices featuring Zeiss optics, but now we know why this has happened.

Earlier this week, in a statement sent to NokiaMob, HMD Global announced that the company has formally ended its partnership with Zeiss. They agreed not to continue the collaboration but did not give a specific reason for the decision.

Zeiss was last featured on a Nokia smartphone called Nokia XR20, and a Zeiss-optimized camera was also featured on the Vivo X60 before that. There are no exclusivity arrangements between the two brands, as confirmed by HMD Global, and the camera company lists Sony as another of its partners on its website.

In the upcoming months, we may still see Nokia-branded handsets released by HMD Global, but they will no longer be equipped with Zeiss optics.
