Google has extended its exploration of Android 15 with the rollout of Developer Preview 2 (DP2), building upon the groundwork laid by its predecessor. Aimed primarily at developers, this iteration continues to fine-tune the operating system for optimal app compatibility ahead of a public beta slated for April.

A key highlight of Android 15 DP2 is its enhanced support for satellite connectivity integrated directly into the OS. With dedicated UI elements, the system ensures a seamless experience for devices utilizing satellite networks. Apps can now detect and adapt to satellite connections, including core messaging services like SMS/MMS and RCS apps.

In addition, developers will find it easier to handle PDFs within their applications, with new features such as rendering for password-protected documents, annotations, and enhanced search and editing capabilities. These updates will be delivered via Google Play system updates, independent of major Android releases, promising faster and more resource-efficient local PDF viewing experiences.

Other notable improvements in DP2 include smoother NFC payment transactions, refined automatic language switching for audio recognition, and customization options for app appearances on smaller screens of flip-style foldable phones.

Furthermore, Android 15 introduces enhanced user privacy measures by detecting app recording activities. Audio experiences are also set to improve with the introduction of a new loudness standard aimed at ensuring consistency across various content types.

Notably, the Do Not Disturb mode receives further customization options, empowering users to prioritize specific rules and trigger actions such as black-and-white display, night mode, and wallpaper dimming.

Amidst these advancements, how will the integration of satellite connectivity in Android 15 impact future app development and user experiences?
