Nintendo’s President Warned

Nintendo’s President Shuntaro Furukawa has warned that there would be a shortage of their Nintendo Switch later this 2021. Although the company has already secured the needed materials for the immediate production of semiconductors, an imminent shortage would likely happen soon.

In an interview with Nikkei, which was reported VGC, the president of Nintendo his thoughts on the ongoing global semiconductor shortage that is causing supply issues with other gaming consoles such as the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, graphic cards, and more.

“We have been able to secure the necessary materials for the immediate production of semiconductors for switches. However, in Japan and other countries, demand has been very strong since the beginning of the year, and there is a possibility of shortages at some retailers in the future,” Furukawa stated in the interview.

He then also admits that soon it would be difficult in meeting the orders as shortages in material would continue.

The company has been dealing with the shortage for quite some time already since the demand for gaming consoles grew from the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. This was even made worse when scalpers would buy a bulk ton of consoles that they would sell at a more expensive price.

This somehow puts a big question to Nintendo on how they would keep up with the demand of the Switch, Switch Lite, and even the rumored “Nintendo Switch Pro.” The Pro is reportedly to come with a larger screen and 4k resolution when docked. An NVIDIA chipset is likely to be used while an updated CPU and increased memory will be added. Hopefully, we get to have an announcement soon and wait for a Holiday 2021 release.
