Tecno Camon 16 is a sleek smartphone packed with some state-of-the-art technologies, without the hefty price tag. With a lot of cool features in it, will its battery and performance be amazing as well? Let’s take a look.

Design
Let’s take a look at the design first, the build of the back of Camon 16 is made out of plastic, with a glossy finish which means it is prone to fingerprint smudges which is a bit of a problem especially when you have sweaty palms. This smartphone has a 9.2mm thickness which is a bit thicker than usual slim smartphones in the market.
At the back is the square-shaped camera module in the middle which is a bit big and unusual. Below is the fingerprint scanner, while the Tecno Camon branding is at the bottom.

Around the frame, we have the power button and the volume rockers on the right, while on the left, is the sim tray with dual nano sim slot and a dedicated slot for microSD. On the bottom are the 3.5mm headphone jack and speaker grille. Instead of a USB-C type port, it still has a micro USB for its charging port which is a bit outdated in my opinion.
Heading to the front, the Camon 16 boasts a 6.8″ HD+ IPS LCD screen, which is one of its downsides since most of us are rooting for devices with higher display resolution. Sharpness and colors are good despite the HD quality but for the large 6.8 screens, it stretches the density and I can see the separation of the pixel when looking up close.
However, it has a hole punch cut out on the top left to house its selfie camera which is a bit unique as other phones with HD screens have the outdated dewdrop notch.

Moving to its rear cameras, the Camon 16 has a quad-camera set up which consists of a 48mp main cam, and three 2mp for the macro, depth, and AI. As for video recording, It can shoot up to 2k and 1080p@30fps. It can also shoot in slow motion up to 240 fps.
Camera Features
As for the features, it has an eye focus feature, which the name speaks for itself. It has 18 scenes on its AI detection that according to them it has 95% recognition, which is a pretty unique feature since not all smartphones have this kind of technology. The 48mp main sensor outputs quality photos and despite not having an ultrawide lens, the 2mp macro did a pretty decent job as a replacement. It has cool features on its cameras as well.

Performance
Now onto its performance, the Camon 16 is powered by a MediaTek Helio G70 processor, which is paired with 6GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. As for the software, it runs on Android 10.0 with HIOS 7.0 on top. Helio G70 is one of the ideal processors when it comes to mobile gaming but if taking it to the next level I think they should have picked the Helio G80 instead as they have a hyper engine system.
It has a Smart Panel 2.0 and a Gesture Call picker which is another unique feature that this phone has.
Battery
Tecno Camon 16 has a 5000mah power battery which is paired with an 18w fast charge. Juicing up the 5000mah power battery took around 2 hours and 30 minutes which is not bad for its price.
Since it only has an HD+ display, it will save you enough amount of battery power because it won’t consume much power due to its lower PPI density. From 100% battery and then playing mobile games for 2 hours and 30 minutes, our battery only dropped at 83 percent, which is amazing.

What to expect?
Overall, for the price of P7,990, it has cool features in its camera and it manages to game decently on E-sports titles but will start to struggle in triple-A games. You also have to accept having a 720p resolution, but apart from it, it can satisfy your needs because of its long-lasting battery life, large screen, and sleek design. But can it compete in the entry-level market? Somehow it can, because of its camera performance, although it lacks an ultra-wide lens, the macro lens did an impressive job as a replacement for the ultra-wide lens. Plus the ultra night mode of the 48mp and the 16mp selfie camera did a pretty good job for an entry-level device. For a full review of this device please visit our YouTube channel.
