The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said on Monday that it would try harder to get more people to register their SIM cards. This is because registration has slowed about halfway through the required period.

Under the SIM Card Registration Act, all public telecommunication entities (PTEs) must set up their registration platforms for users with valid IDs. DICT Intensifies Registration
Service providers could turn off the SIM cards of users who do not register them by April 26, 2023.
After President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. signed the SIM Card Registration Act into law in October, its rules and regulations went into effect on December 27.

As of 11:59 p.m. on February 12, the DICT said that 32,062,265 SIM cards had been registered with their PTEs. This equals 18.97% of the 168.977 million SIMs in the country.
“Our telcos are working twice as hard, and the DICT and NTC (National Telecommunications Commission) are doing more to help them,” Lamentillo said.
