Twitter Will Show More Tweets From Non-Following: As Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, tweaks the social network’s features; it looks like more algorithmic recommendations are on the way.
On Wednesday, Twitter’s support account tweeted about the change, saying that the site was “opening up recommendations to all users.” This is do to give users the “best” content, a line Instagram likes to use. Adding more recommendations to a social feed makes users more likely to expect more paid content.
We want to ensure everyone on Twitter sees the best content on the platform, so we’re expanding recommendations to all users, including those who may not have seen them in the past.

Twitter didn’t give any more information about the change to recommendations, but it did link to a blog post that explains how algorithmic content works and where it might appear. “Recommendations can show up in your Home timeline, certain places in the Explore tab, and other places on Twitter,” the post says. You can now switch between the home feed and “latest tweets” by clicking the sparkling button in the upper right corner of the timeline.
It’s unclear immediately if Twitter plans to add more recommended tweets to the “home” timeline or if this is a more aggressive move. We’ve tweeted the company to ask for more information. Some users have already seen changes, which are affecting home feeds now.
Twitter has two different feeds: “latest tweets,” which show tweets from people you follow in order, and “home,” which shows tweets from people you follow that are popular. From what we saw, the second one sometimes included suggestions from people we didn’t mind, but mostly it was just a collection of tweets from people we did follow.

Musk is know for quickly making significant changes to features and then taking them back. Because of this, we wouldn’t be surprise. If Twitter heavily pushed recommendations or even changed the default feed to go in that direction. We’ll keep an eye out for anything significant.
Before Musk, the platform would make recommendations stand out more, but after users complained, it changed its mind. On Instagram, people have also said they are tire of seeing posts from people they don’t follow in their feeds. TikTok is built to serve content that is chose by an algorithm. But many other social platforms have to be more careful.
Because Twitter and Instagram were made so that users could follow people they already knew or knew of. They have to turn on the algorithm slowly and hope that users don’t notice any sudden changes. We’ll have to wait and see in this case.
