An official of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) on June 9, 2022, asserts that virtual simulations are essential if the training goal is to prepare staff to deal with Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in Health (DRRMH).

In a press release, DOST Undersecretary Rowena Guevara said that the DOST is looking at the possibility of setting up DRRM-H centers in several regions of the country.

Training through virtual simulation is an excellent way of managing disaster simulations as a cost-effective method of managing disaster training. To achieve a desired level of effectiveness, live simulations and large-scale drills require a substantial financial investment and a lot of preparation. As Guevara described in an interview, there are certain logistics and safety concerns for trainees when working in hazardous settings.

In the long run, virtual simulation technologies make learning easier and improve abilities simultaneously. It has been announced that the DOST’s Science for Change program has invested Php69.4 million in the UPM DRRM-H Center, which was launched on Wednesday.

A typical users of this center would be healthcare practitioners, disaster responders, leaders and managers, local and national governments, and commercial entities. This is a facility that the general public can access. Everyone can benefit from the training that this center offers.

Deputy Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, Guevara, said that work was started in 2018 and completed in 2021, but improvements were finished this year. The department now provides research, training, and consulting, which is great and interesting news!
