We reported that the iPhone 11 is the best-selling smartphone as posted by Canalys, however, we also shared our reason why the iPhone SE 2020 might make the top 10 next quarter. You can read about that here. Switching to the other side, the best-selling Android phone in Q1 2020 is apparently Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 8 and Note 8T. Combined, the two recorded 8 million sold units. The Redmi Note 8 Pro isn’t too far behind, settling for the 5th place with nearly 6 million units sold. Another Xiaomi device also entered which is the Redmi 8A entry-level phone with 4 million units sold.
What’s more interesting here are the rest of the spots. The Galaxy A51 is the third best-selling phone in the 1Q 2020 with 7 million units sold. That is despite the so-so performance of the chipset. The Galaxy A10s entry-level phone settles for 4th place with nearly 6 million units sold. With 5 million units, the Galaxy A20s takes the 7th spot. Right behind it is another Samsung phone which is the Galaxy A01.
Despite the heavy marketing of flagship phones like the Galaxy S20 and Huawei P40, the price of a device continues to be the most important part when purchasing a phone (at least, from a regular consumer’s perspective). We’ve seen a lot of phones that we feel is more deserving, however, we also have to take into consideration the global market control of these brands, among others.
