Xiaomi, or rather Redmi, is back at it again. Days after the revelation of wraparound-screen Mi Mix Alpha, the company is launching the budget-oriented Redmi 8A phone. With a starting price of INR 6,499 or nearly ~P4,700 and goes up to INR 6,999 or roughly ~P5,100, it’s another budget smartphone king to beat.
Succeeding the Redmi 7A, Redmi 8A introduces a new design and a bigger battery. From 5.45″ size, the display now stretches out to 6.2″ — thanks to the inclusion of a teardrop notch and slightly thinner bezels. In terms of specs, it still runs on Snapdragon 439 chipset with up to 3GB RAM and 32GB expandable storage. The biggest improvement, however, is the 5000mAH battery that now supports 18W fast charging via USB Type-C. Of course, you still get the headphone jack. As for the cameras, an upgraded 8MP selfie camera is here and a 12MP Sony IMX363 AI sensor on the back.

Indeed! Although the chipset remained the same and is quite a letdown, bigger screen+battery, newer design, USB-C and nanocoat water protection makes up for that.
The major improvement is the main camera! A 12MP with f1/1.8 is a massive improvement AND you’ll never find it in any other phones with the same pricetag!

Worthy upgrade over the Redmi 7A.
