To advance Apple’s R&D efforts and further expanding its manufacturing capabilities in the US, the company invested $45 million from their Advanced Manufacturing Fund to Corning Incorporated.

Apple and Corning have been working for many years already which the two companies worked together in creating glass surfaces especially when it comes to Apple’s lineup. The Ceramic Shield is the latest product, helping protect the front display of the iPhone 12 lineup.

Established in 2017 by Apple, the Advanced Manufacturing Fund was created to help across different sectors like silicon engineering, 5G, and manufacturing. Over the past four years, the tech giant has invested up to $450 million in Corning as they support US operations in Kentucky and other facilities.

Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, Jeff Williams, commented on the company’s investment stating that the two companies had a long history especially in doing the impossible. He continued as he reflects on the success of the new Ceramic Shield on their iPhone 12 lineup which “changed the landscape of smartphone cover design and durability.” Furthermore, Williams added, “Ceramic Shield is a prime example of the technologies that are possible when deep innovation meets the power of American manufacturing. We’re so proud to work alongside Corning, whose 170-year-old legacy is a testament to the ingenuity of the US workforce.”
