OPPO Reno16 F 5G Review

We recently got our hands on one of OPPO‘s latest smartphones, the OPPO Reno16 F 5G, and after using it as our daily driver, here are our thoughts.

Let’s start with one of the device’s biggest highlights, its design.

Design

The OPPO Reno16 F 5G offers a premium look and feel despite being the more affordable model in the Reno16 series. What immediately stands out is the 3D pattern on the back panel, which gives the phone a unique and eye-catching appearance.

If you prefer smartphones with bold and stylish designs, this is definitely one worth considering.

The phone also feels solid in the hand. It weighs 197 grams, making it comfortable enough for daily use without feeling too heavy. Its size also makes it easy to operate with one hand.

Adding to its durability, the Reno16 F 5G comes with both IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance, which is a welcome feature at this price point.

Display

Moving on to the display, the Reno16 F 5G features a 6.57-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1,400 nits of peak brightness.

For everyday use, the display delivers a great viewing experience. Whether you’re watching videos, playing games, or simply browsing social media, the screen looks vibrant with sharp colors and good detail. The slim bezels also help create a more immersive viewing experience.

However, during our testing, we encountered one issue where the touchscreen suddenly became unresponsive, leaving us unable to interact with the device. Thankfully, a force restart fixed the problem, and we didn’t experience it again afterward.

Cameras

For cameras, the OPPO Reno16 F 5G is equipped with a triple rear camera setup consisting of a 50MP main camera, a 50MP telephoto camera, and an 8MP ultrawide camera. On the front, it features a 50MP selfie camera.

Since it has been raining over the past few days, we weren’t able to capture many outdoor samples, but we still managed to take several photos.

Daylight Sample Photos

The main camera captures detailed images with good color reproduction under proper lighting conditions. The telephoto camera also adds versatility when taking portraits or zoomed-in shots, while the ultrawide lens is useful for landscapes and group photos.

Lowlight Sample Photos

For selfies, the 50MP front camera produces detailed images with natural-looking skin tones and enough sharpness for social media uploads.

When it comes to video recording, the rear cameras can record at up to 4K at 30fps.

Performance

Powering the OPPO Reno16 F 5G is the MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Energy processor, paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage on our review unit.

Rather than focusing on raw performance, this chipset is designed to prioritize power efficiency. In daily use, the phone performed well. We didn’t experience noticeable slowdowns while navigating the interface, browsing social media, streaming videos, or handling other everyday tasks.

For gaming, we tested Genshin Impact. While the game was certainly playable, there were still occasional frame drops, especially during more demanding scenes. It delivers decent gaming performance, but don’t expect flagship-level results.

Benchmark Results

  • AnTuTu: 980,940
  • Geekbench: 1,007 (Single-Core) / 2,782 (Multi-Core)
  • Geekbench OpenCL: 2,394
  • Geekbench Vulkan: 2,496
  • 3DMark Wildlife: 3,145
  • PCMark Battery Test: 23 hours and 42 minutes

Battery

Speaking of battery life, the Reno16 F 5G packs a massive 7,000mAh battery with support for 80W SUPERVOOC fast charging.

During our PCMark Battery Test, the phone lasted an impressive 23 hours and 42 minutes. In real-world usage, a full charge comfortably lasted us around two days with casual use.

Of course, heavier workloads such as gaming, extended camera use, and prolonged mobile data usage will drain the battery more quickly, but overall, battery life is one of this phone’s strongest features.

Price

As for the pricing, the OPPO Reno16 F 5G is priced at PHP 44,999 for the 8GB + 128GB variant. Meanwhile, the 8GB + 256GB variant costs PHP 49,999.

Verdict

Overall, despite being the more budget-friendly model in the Reno16 series, the OPPO Reno16 F 5G offers a well-rounded experience. It delivers a premium-looking design, an excellent AMOLED display, dependable everyday performance, and outstanding battery life.

The only downsides we found are the lack of eSIM support and the 8GB RAM configuration, which may feel limiting for users looking for more multitasking headroom. Aside from those, the OPPO Reno16 F 5G is a solid option for anyone looking for a capable mid-range smartphone.
