Why Threads Users Are Already Complaining

With the launch of Threads, Meta’s answer to Twitter’s growing complexity and controversy, the social media world is getting bigger. Twitter was the best for a long time, but Elon Musk’s changes to policy, like making account verification cost money and limited the number of tweets a user can read at once, have made it open to competition.

Threads came along and started making news right away because it works with Instagram and gives people who are tired of Twitter a place to go. But not everything is perfect over in the Meta camp. There’s one big thing the app doesn’t have: a web version of Threads. Read on to find out what it is and why it is so important.

Twitter Threatens Legal Action Against Meta as Threads App Gains Popularity

Threads Users Want a Desktop or Web App

Many Threads users have already asked why there isn’t a web version of the app. You can get to and update other social media apps, like Twitter, by going to their websites. The Threads website, on the other hand, doesn’t exist yet. As of July 2023, it’s just an empty page that tells people to download the Threads app.

Threads.com, an unrelated company that calls itself a competitor to Slack and has gotten so much traffic that it now has a disclaimer on its site, is making things even more confusing.

Given how often most people use their phones, a website might not seem like such a big deal, but it is. Every other big app has a web version, so since Threads didn’t have one when it first came out, it’s already one step behind.

Someone might want a PC version for many different reasons. Maybe they’re uploading old holiday pictures they found on their computer. Maybe it would be easier for them to use the app on the web instead of stopping to find their phone.

No matter why, people are already asking if Threads is going to add a web version. Meta hasn’t said anything public yet about whether or not they plan to add web functionality. But Mark Zuckerberg’s company’s other apps, Facebook and Instagram, both have web versions, so it would be very strange if Threads didn’t get one at some point.
