
Threads, a new social media app from Meta that works like Twitter, had more than 30 million users in less than two days. But users and critics are already looking closely at the new site. The fact that users can’t delete their Threads account without also deleting their Instagram account is one of the most common issues.

Even though curious users should keep that in mind before joining Threads, it’s not as big of a problem as people say it is, and it’s not the main reason to avoid Threads in the first place. If you want to get rid of your Threads account for good, you will need to delete your Instagram account, at least for now. Meta is “looking into” a way to separate Threads and Instagram accounts so that users can remove one without losing the other. Until then, though, users can deactivate their Threads page without losing their Instagram account.
