Sunday, Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) reported 282 late, canceled, or diverted flights. Also, there were a total of 56,000 passengers affected due to the traffic control issue.

No one knew many affected and compromised flights happened during the power outage in NAIA.

Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista apologized to travelers and claimed a power loss led the central air traffic control system to break down.

He said that there should be renovations with the old building right away, and that there should also be a backup system.

He even compared Singapore’s traffic management system with Philippines and admitted that the former is 10 years ahead to Philippines.

At 4PM the system was only partially back up, so only a few flights could go through. The airport operator said that by the end of the day, eight flights had arrived and eight had left.
