NTC Creates Task Committee to Oversee SIM Registration

THE National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has created a task force to closely monitor the implementation of the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Registration Act.

Ella Blanca B. Lopez, who is in charge of the NTC, said that the commission created an NTC Task Force through Office Order No. 112-12-2022 to closely watch how the SIM Registration Act and its implementing rules and regulations (IRR) every day by public telecommunication entities (PTEs) all over the country.

Globe is now with 1,769,374 successful registrations since the enacted law, while Smart has had 1,019,207. DITO said that 530,424 listups happened.

She also thanked the government agencies, PTEs, consumer groups, and members of the public who helped make the IRR of the SIM Registration Act.

In the meantime, Secretary of the Department of Justice (DOJ) Jesus Crispin Remulla said people shouldn’t be afraid of the SIM law.

On the other hand, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Margarita Gutierrez commends DILG’s dedication from its Central Office to its Field Offices, along with the Philippine National Police and other law enforcement agencies, in helping the Department of Information and Communications Technology, the NTC, and other government agencies with the SIM Registration process.

Anna Mae Lamentillo, who works for the DICT as an undersecretary, said that the SIM Registration Law protects people from scams that happen through phone calls and text messages.

DICT highly suggests that everyone should to work together in order to have their SIM cards registered. The sooner we are able to complete the registration, the better, because that will allow us to begin enjoying the benefits and safeguards afforded to us by the legal system.
