National Broadband Plan Begins This 2023

National Broadband Plan Begins This 2023: The National Broadband Plan (NBP) is expect to be fully functional by the middle of 2023. According to the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

This is the assurance that the DICT is providing to senators in response to Senator Grace Poe’s defense of the planned budget for the department in 2023.

During his response to the queries posed by Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel III, Poe stated that the first phase of the NBP is currently 73 percent finishe. The phrase above involves the activation of 28 nodes of the national fiber backbone. Which can be found in 12 different provinces between Quezon City and Laoag.

Senator Poe emphasized how important it is for the country to have an ICT backbone to get up to speed with the most recent technological trend and assist the government in cutting costs.

According to Senator Poe, it is not only possible for the government to lease it out. But also for private businesses such as Smart and Globe. This will allow the government to generate revenue from the asset.

Pimentel voiced his worries about the proposal by questioning whether or not it was practically feasible. The senator wants to know if the country should “still aim” for its national backbone. Even though it can only fund it at 2% yearly.

The first or early phases would already be out of date by the time. It is finishe, which wouldn’t be for another 20 to 30 years.

The objective of the NBP, which has been in operation for the past five years, is to improve the quality of internet connectivity throughout the Philippines while also making it more accessible. As of August, the DICT had successfully installed high-speed internet connections in all 981 government offices spread over 13 provinces.

The NBP will be implement in five stages, and the total. Cost is anticipate to be one hundred billion Philippine pesos. Until this point, the government has already spent almost 5 billion Philippine pesos.
