If you’re one of the people who’s confused about the differences and similarities between the Huawei P40 Series, Honor 30 Series, and Nova 7 Series, this may be the perfect guide for you. In this article, we’re going to talk about which is the best Huawei Series for your needs. And before we dive into details, let’s address the elephant in the room — all three lack support of Google apps and services. In other words, all devices are left with Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) with AppGallery as their main application store. With that said, here’s what you should know about the three Huawei lineup.

Nova 7 Series – The best value for money

Out of the three, Nova 7 Series is the latest lineup to be announced. There are three devices in tow — Nova 7 SE, Nova 7, and Nova 7 Pro. All of them come with a built-in 5G modem, except for the starting model of the Nova 7 SE which happens to be the cheapest among the three at CNY 2399(~P17,000). Furthermore, it’s powered by Kirin 820 SoC that’s equally as powerful as the Snapdragon 855. As for the rest of the Nova devices, they sport the latest Kirin 985 premium mid-range SoC that bridges the gap between Kirin 820 and Kirin 990. Camera-wise, all three of them come equipped with 64MP quad-cameras. However, the Nova 7 supports a telephoto lens that allows for up to 3x optical zoom while the Nova 7 Pro has a periscope lens that delivers up to 5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom, and 50x digital zoom with better quality. Additionally, it’s the only device with a dual-selfie camera — the main sensor and ultrawide lens.

The reason why you would want to get a Nova 7 device is for the price. The Nova 7 starts at CNY 2999(~P21,500) while the Nova 7 Pro at CNY 3699(~26,500). It’s the cheapest way of owning a 5G device with excellent CPU performance, good cameras, and a large battery.

Honor 30 Series – The Poor Man’s P40

Released a week ago, the Honor 30 Series is the perfect match for those who don’t want or can’t afford to buy a P40 phone. At a significantly less expensive price tag, you’re getting flagship-level specs and cameras, as well as better design and display. This is also the part wherein you start to see new technologies, such as Wi-Fi 6 and fast wireless charging. Like the rest of the series, this one comes in three models — Honor 30, Honor 30 Pro, and Honor 30 Pro+. All of them come with curved OLED screens (excluding Honor 30) with the exception of a 90Hz refresh rate on the Pro+ model. Unlike the Nova 7 Series, there’s no headphone jack here.

The Honor 30 is similar to Nova 7 Pro, packing Kirin 985 SoC and 4000mAh battery with 40W SuperCharge. However, the cameras are technically worse in numbers (and numbers don’t tell the whole story) — featuring 40MP f1.8 sensor and a single 32MP selfie camera. Stepping up to the Honor 30 Pro means having a better ultrawide lens at 16MP, P40 sensors, and a secondary 8MP ultrawide selfie lens. But the two most important upgrades here are the Kirin 990 SoC and IP54 water and dust resistance rating. Should you wish for the least expensive phone that’s close to the specs of P40 Pro+, the Honor 30 Pro+ is that device as it features a 50MP f1.9 sensor with omnidirectional PDAF for the best auto-focus performance. Furthermore, you get the benefit of 27W fast wireless charging.

Huawei P40 Series – No Holds Barred

The Huawei P40 Series is probably the easiest to recommend if you don’t mind spending a lot. Again, the lineup consists of three devices — P40, P40 Pro, and P40 Pro+. But unlike the first two, these are the only phones officially available in the Philippines as of writing (the P40 Pro+ will arrive at a later date). The P40 starts at P36,990 while the P40 Pro will set you back at P50,990. The P40 carries nearly the same spec sheet as the Honor 30 Pro+, however, the ultrawide selfie is swapped out for an IR TOF 3D sensor for a more secure face unlock, fast charging is limited to 22.5W only, and 90Hz refresh rate is trickled down to 60Hz. The smaller 3800mAH battery might not be enticing but it’s powering a smaller 6.1″ FHD+ non-curved OLED display.

With the P40 Pro models, you’re getting the same 50MP sensor but with a massive 40MP ultrawide lens this time around. There are larger batteries at 4200mAh, HDR10+ supported curved screens and faster wired and wireless charging. But if you really want the best, only the P40 Pro+ comes with 40W wireless charging (and 27W reverse wireless) that beats the OnePlus 8 Pro’s 30W version. In addition to that is the ability to provide 10x optical zoom with the periscope lens.

We hope we were able to answer some of your questions regarding these Huawei series. If you have further clarifications, you can leave them in the comment section to be answered.
