How to Move WhatsApp Chat Data From Android to iOS

On July 20, 2022, WhatsApp announced that users will be able to transfer their entire chat history from Android to iOS and vice versa. This feature was first announced at last year’s Galaxy Unpacked event. Previously, WhatsApp users had to rely on third-party apps to transfer their chat history or risk losing it when switching platforms. This feature was initially available in a beta update on the Meta-owned platform. Unfortunately, your WhatsApp call and payment history are still not transferred.

In a tweet, WhatsApp officially announced the new migration feature. The method for transferring WhatsApp chat history from Android to iOS has been highlighted on the company’s FAQ page. Before beginning the migration, users should keep the following in mind: their Android smartphone must be running Android 5 or higher, and their iPhone must be running iOS 15.5 or higher. Because the transfer is carried out wirelessly, both of your devices must be linked to the same Wi-Fi network. During the migration, it is also recommended that you connect your handsets to a power source.

WhatsApp revealed at last year’s Galaxy Unpacked event that this new migration feature will initially be available for select Samsung smartphones. As part of a beta update, the feature was then made available to a larger user base.

How To Relocate from Android to iPhone

1. After opening the Move to iOS app on your Android phone, follow the on-screen prompts.
2. On your Android phone, enter the code that was displayed on your iPhone.
3. Continue by following the on-screen prompts.
4. On the Transfer Data screen, select WhatsApp.
5. Wait for WhatsApp to prepare the data for export by tapping Start on your Android phone. When the data is ready, you will be signed out of your Android phone.
6. Return to the Move to iOS app by tapping Next.
7. Continue to transfer the data from your Android phone to your iPhone, and then wait for Move to iOS to confirm the transfer is finished.
8. Download the most recent version of WhatsApp from the App Store.
9. Open WhatsApp and sign in with the same phone number you used on your previous device.
10. When prompted, tap Start and wait for the process to finish.

After you finish activating the new device, you will be able to see your chats. Notably, until you create a backup, the transferred data will not be uploaded to iCloud. The data will be saved on your Android device until you uninstall WhatsApp or wipe it.

Things to keep in mind before transferring chat history

• Installed Android OS Lollipop, SDK 21 or higher, or Android 5 or higher on your Android device
• Your iPhone must have iOS 15.5 or later installed.
• Install the iOS app on your Android phone.
• WhatsApp iOS version 2.22.10.70 or higher is required on your new device.
• WhatsApp Android version 2.22.7.74 or higher is required on your old device.
• On your new device, use the same phone number as your old one.
• To pair with the Move to iOS app and transfer data from your Android phone, your iPhone must be brand new or reset to factory settings.
• Both of your devices must be plugged into a power outlet.
• Both of your devices must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network, or your Android device must be connected to your iPhone’s hotspot.
