Speaking to DZMM, Department of Information and Communications (DICT) Undersecretary, Eliseo Rio, said that DITO Telecom is “on track” to meet deadlines despite the coronavirus pandemic. According to him, the third telco in the Philippines has yet to file any sort of extension. By July 8, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) is expected to audit the commitment of DITO which is to provide at least 27Mbps download speed with at least 37% coverage of the population.Â
Rio pointed out that the telecom company won’t offer commercial services until March 21, 2021. The purpose of the audit is to make sure that DITO is capable of delivering the requirements by the government for a smooth roll out in the future. Like other health workers, DITO is considered as frontliners. With people forced to stay and/or work at home, a stable internet connection is needed more than ever.Â
