Twitter has now set some new and tough regulations regarding false information circulating online. This was done especially with most countries are already getting their vaccines and misinformation about the vaccines would start circulating on any social media platform.

A label will be placed on users’ timelines on Twitter which will also appear whenever misleading information would be retweeted. The label system is Twitter’s initiative to be more responsive as well as decisive in dealing with fake and misleading information going around.

Tweets that would be containing false information will be verified by the use of authentic and sufficiently public information. Also, humans are going to be the ones to moderate the system and not an automated system. The labeling system which started March 2 will be used as the groundwork for artificial intelligence which in the long run would learn the process and be deployed for the system. This labeling system will be available in the English language and would have other languages in the near future.

Also, there would be penalties for those who would be going against the misinformation labeling system. A user who would incur two or three strikes would have his account locked for 12 hours. For the fourth strike, the user would lose his account for one week while permanent suspension would be issued after the fifth strike.

With this new labeling system, Twitter users would be keener in sharing information that would mislead not just himself but for others as well. We can also see that Twitter is taking zero tolerance when it comes to misinformation.
