HTC, once a dominating smartphone brand, has officially shut down its Chinese community forum. This according to its forum post. Given the lack of phone release for the past two years, it seems like the company has no immediate plans to re-join the smartphone race. Apparently, nothing seems to be going there way since January. It was reported that the company’s Elevate program, an exclusive community made to provide feedbacks for its products, has shut down after users reported they couldn’t access HTC’s website.
Joining HTC in the sidelines is BlackBerry. With expiring contract rights to sell, design, and manufacture phones, TCL’s last day as BlackBerry’s manufacturer is on August 31, 2020. This has been confirmed by BBMobile’s official Twitter handle. While we won’t be expecting new phones from the company soon, existing devices such as Key2 are bound to receive support until February 20222.
TCL has not released a new phone since 2018. Even with its hallmark physical QWERTY keyboard that’s unique to the market, it was not enough to keep the company afloat. Especially when consumers are consumed by cameras and powerful chipsets among others. Until another company comes in to assist BlackBerry, we won’t be hearing from them for a while.
