Elon Musk, a tech billionaire, owns the aerospace company SpaceX. SpaceX’s satellite internet service, Starlink, will not be available in the Philippines until the middle of next year.
It has already been confirmed that Starlink will be available for business in the Philippines in December 2022. It is said that it will happen in the middle of 2023, but no official date has been given.
The assistant secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Philip A. Varilla, said during the 2022 EJAP Infrastructure Forum that SpaceX needs to launch 4,400 or more satellites, and establishing a satellite is very hard. SpaceX said they could hit the target and that internet service would be “available at that time.”

Starlink is designed to bring fast, reliable internet access to remote areas where traditional fiber internet can’t reach because of infrastructure or cost issues.
The DICT has already said that it will use this technology in its Broadband ng Masa program, which aims to connect remote areas to the internet as a community. This project makes sense when you consider how much a Starlink service costs.
Starlink recently said that its prices in the US would go up. The starter kit’s price has increased from $499 to $599 (around ₱35,400). The monthly cost went up by $10 to $110 (around ₱6,500).
