
It’s Lenovo’s turn to take on Sony’s new flagship, in this review comparison, as Lenovo’s Vibe Shot (priced at Php 17,999 for the Z90-7 variant on the Lenovo Store) squares off with Sony’s new kid on the block, the Sony Xperia M5. (supposedly priced at around Php 18K) Check out their specs, features, price and overall performance and find out which of these two flagships, suits you better.
Both devices possesses an almost identical STB ratio, with the Sony Xperia M5 measuring at 66% STB ratio and the Lenovo Vibe Shot at 69.9% STB ratio. The Xperia M5 packs an IP68, which provides the M5 with dust-resistance and waterproof capabilities, which is not available to the Vibe Shot, however, Vibe Shot screen is full protected by Cornings Gorilla Glass 3, in which the Sony Xperia M5 does not possess.
Both devices are build with oleophobic glass back covers, which looks sophisticated and stylish at the same time. Both devices also sport full physical buttons, in which the Vibe Shot carries with its aluminum frame, which is rather more stylish than the Xperia M5’s plastic frames. Lenovo Vibe Shot is slightly more thinner and more heavier, with its 7.3mm thickness dimension measurement and 145g weight, in comparison to the Xperia M5’s 7.6mm thickness measurement and 142.6g weight. With this, there are obvious advantages for both devices, in terms of features and design materials, thus, both the Lenovo Vibe Shot and Xperia M5 are considered excellent in design.
The winner: Tie, for different advantages of both devices with one another
Both devices carry a 5-inch 1080p IPS LCD FHD display screen, which showcases excellent display imagery. In sharpness, both devices were considerably equal with one another, although, in terms of brightness, both were a bit close to identical, but differences are noticeable, with the Vibe Shot delivering a more warmth display color. the Vibe Shot, also showcases a more saturated display imagery, than its opponent the Sony Xperia M5. These devices were equally excellent and high reliability rate of display quality and sunlight readability, plus, both devices delivered amazing viewing angle, solidifying both devices as excellent performers, in terms of display.
The winner: Tie for excellence in display performance
For still images, both devices delivered a top class performance by providing excellent outputs, which were sharp and bright. However, upon closer inspection, we were able to determine that Xperia M5 showed more color accuracy, in comparison to the Vibe Shot’s outputs. the Xperia M5 also trumps the Vibe Shot, in terms of night photography and HDR mode, which the Xperia M5 delivered a more satisfying output, than its opponent.
The winner: Xperia M5, for supremacy in still image outputs
In video performance, there was no doubt, that Xperia M5 trumps the Vibe Shot, in terms of video sharpness, focusing speed and dynamic range of video, with the Xperia M5’s 4K UHD high resolution video recorder, which generated a much color accurate and detail preserved, video output. Thus, Xperia M5 takes the video round from its opponent.

System-wise, both devices are up-to-date, with the devices both running with, Android 5.0 Lollipop. They differ however, in terms of chipset, with the Vibe Shot, being empowered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octacore chipset, while the Xperia M5 packs a MediaTek MT6795 Helio X10 chipset. For RAM capacity, both were at par, with the both of them, sporting a 3GB RAM capacity, while the Lenovo Vibe Shot Z90-7 holds an edge in terms of internal storage size, with the latter carrying a 32GB internal storage, which is larger than the 16GB internal storage that the Xperia M5 carries, however, the Xperia M5 was able to fight back, with its more efficient 200GB maximum microSD expandability rate, in comparison to the Vibe Shot’s 128GB maximum microSD expandability rate.
For the boot up test conducted on both devices, it was observed that Lenovo Vibe Shot showcased a more faster and efficient loading time, in comparison to the Xperia M5’s. with the Vibe Shot beating the M5, in just a few seconds, in advance.
For the benchmark tests conducted on both device, we were able to determine that, the Xperia M5 showcased a far better system than the Vibe Shot, however, unlike some of the past review comparison that the Xperia M5 was under, it seems that it couldn’t deliver a clean sweep, this time around, with the Xperia M5, only winning two out of three conducted benchmark tests, which highly shows that the Vibe Shot is not to be taken likely, by Sony’s new flagship in town.

For the application speed test conducted on both device, it was seen that the Xperia M5 was faster, in terms of loading up the game, with the Vibe Shot, trailing the Xperia M5 at around 3-4 seconds. this showcases the Xperia M5’s strengths in system and how it can deliver quick and efficient loading time on applications.
For speaker performance, it was observed that speaker volume and power are considerably close with one another, however, the Xperia M5 showcased a more clear and sharp vocal sound and bass audio registry, which sky rocketed the Xperia M5 towards victory.
The winner: Xperia M5, for far superior speaker performance, in comparison to the Vibe Shots
True enough, the Xperia M5 came out on top, against its more older modelled opponent, however, the Vibe Shot, showcased a few rays of hope, that pretty much solidified the latter, as a phone that shouldn’t be taken likely by newer flagships in the market. The Vibe Shot delivered its best, but was just not enough to full out an overall victory from its much more newer and up-to-date opponent.
If you want to have the Lenovo Vibe Shot, its already available here in the Philippines, with its price at around Php 17,999 for the Z90-7 variant. However, the Sony Xperia M5 is yet to arrive in the Philippine market, yet, it is expected to be priced at around Php 18-20K (without the tax from Sony)
