P10 Rollback In Flag-Down Rates For Taxis, Airport Taxis

MANILA – Today, March 9 starts the nationwide implementation of the P10 rollback flag-down rates on taxis and airport taxis. This is after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved a petition on provisional decrease filed by a lawmaker last Friday, March 6.

From P40, the rate will drop to P30 for regular taxis and from P70 to P60 for airport taxis.

However, the LTFRB said that since the rollback is only on the flag-down rate, there would be no provisional reduction of fares for every ensuing 300 meters. And also taxi meters will not be calibrated to reflect new rates, clarified LTFRB Chairman Winston Ginez.

Consequently, the meters will still show P40 (or P70 for airport taxis) as the initial fare. The taxi drivers would have to manually deduct P10 from the total fare to apply the new provisional rates, or passengers would just have to pay less P10 of the total fare.

Taxi operators and drivers violating the order will be penalized accordingly, said Ginez.
