Last year, the company announced the realme X3 SuperZoom for the global market; though it carried flagship-like features, the year-old chipset and LCD screen didn’t really leave a good impression on fans. This year, the company is back with a true flagship in the realme GT 5G that got announced in China. For a starting price of CNY2899(~Php21,800), you’re getting Snapdragon 888, 120Hz Super AMOLED display, and 65W fast charger; thus, making the device a direct competitor to the Redmi K40 Pro.

realme GT 5G comes in three colors, namely Blue, Silver, and racing-themed yellow that features vegan leather backing instead of glass. Similar to the Redmi K40 Series, it has the same E4 Super AMOLED that boasts up to 120Hz refresh rate, FHD+ resolution, and 100% DCI-P# color gamut. Unfortunately, the 165Hz refresh rate rumor appears inaccurate. The similarities continue to the cameras with 64MP main, 8MP ultrawide, and 2MP macro on the back, except for the 16MP IMX682 selfie camera. Â
Unlike the Redmi K40 Pro, however, there’s an audio jack that’s paired with the stereo speakers tuned by Dolby Atmos. Another area where realme’s flagship leads is in charging speed at a whopping 65W for the 4500mAh battery. realme claims that it allows the phone to go up to 100% in as fast as 35 minutes. Given that we’re talking about a flagship phone, the fingerprint scanner is already under the display.
realme GT 5G features a base model with 8GB RAM a 128GB storage for CNY2899(~Php21,800), with the 12GB/256GB model retailing for CNY3299(~Php24,800). There’s no word yet whether the phone will arrive for the global market, including the Philippines, so we just have to wait for an official announcement.
