realme has launched realme 8 5G in Thailand; as an answer to its fans asking for an affordable 5G phone. When the realme 8 Series was first announced, neither the standard nor the Pro model came with 5G options. And while realme 8 5G is now indeed 5G-ready, some consumers have to live with downgraded specs.
Gone is the punchy Super AMOLED with 1000 nits peak brightness; realme 8 5G is now using a 6.5″ IPS LCD 90Hz with 600 nits peak brightness and 480 nits typical. There’s also no always-on display, by the way. While the phone still runs Android 11 with realme UI 2.0 on top, the gaming-centric Helio G95 has been replaced with a more power-efficient Dimensity 700.
The 64MP quad-camera on the back is also gone, in favor of a 48MP sensor and a pair of 2MP for macro and depth. realme 8 5G also loses the option to record in 4K resolution and 1080p@60fps. Yikes. Fortunately, the 16MP selfie camera stays.
While the 5000mAh battery is untouched, the 30W fast charging is swapped out for 18W. The same applies to the in-display scanner, now embedded on the power button.
On the flip end, realme 8 5G is a bit subtle in design, omitting the “dare to leap” branding on the back.
realme 8 5G is already on sale in Thailand for a price of ฿9999(~₱15K) for the 8/128GB model. We have yet to learn the price of the base model with 4GB/128GB. Take note that the converted Philippine pricing is not official, in case realme 8 5G launches locally.
