Vivo Y20s

Vivo Y20s [G] is now up for purchase in select stores nationwide for ₱9,999 — at that price, the company is targeting budget gamers. But what exactly makes the new phone a budget gaming one? That’s why we’re here to find out. Among Vivo’s arsenal, the Y20s [G] is the least expensive phone you can get for playing Mobile Legends, PUBG, and other popular titles. And to deliver a decent gaming experience that matches your speed, here are the features that you probably didn’t know.

MediaTek HyperEngine Technology

Vivo Y20s [G] is sporting Helio G80 SoC, featuring an octa-core CPU with six 1.8GHz efficient cores and two 2GHz performance cores. Built on a 12nm node, the CPU is paired with Mali-G52 M2 GPU clocked at 950MHz. While the number won’t win any awards, both CPU and GPU take advantage of MediaTek HyperEngine technology, which is the more important feature outside SoC. What it does is simply improve your mobile gaming experience by making load times faster and increasing the sensitivity of touch input for faster controls.

The fun doesn’t end there, though. You also get a boost in connectivity performance, optimizing latency like game controllers and headsets. Of course, that includes your Wi-Fi connection. MediaTek also enhances the visual of your games, leveraging its experience from MiraVision-powered TVs. Aside from improving latency, it also improves the contrast level, sharpness, and fine details of your games, thus giving you a better visual of the game’s landscape or increasing your visibility.

Big Battery with Fast Charging

In 2021, 5000mAh is the standard battery in smartphones. And, we’re glad to see that with the Y20s [G]. However, it’s a pain in the butt to charge a big battery slowly — that’s why 18W fast charging is here. Although it’s using micro USB, most Vivo owners coming from older Vivo phones are probably using the same charging port and probably slower charging speed.

HD+ Resolution

It’s weird for a gaming phone to use an HD+ or 720p+ resolution, but if we’re talking about budget gaming, things make more sense. While you can always game on an FHD+ or 1080p+ device, that only means putting extra work on the CPU and GPU — affecting gameplay experience due to lower frames per second (fps). In competitive gaming, more fps is better than better visual quality. In the case of Y20s [G], you don’t need the extra pixel count, especially when you have the ability to control the visual quality of the game through MediaTek’s technology.

Vivo Y20s [G] comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage in the Philippines. It’s also available in Black and Blue colors. If you’re a Vivo fanatic using an old Vivo phone, the Y20s [G] is a decent upgrade that’s under ₱10,000.
