An official date was announced for the OnePlus launch for its next phones. On March 23, 2021, at 10 AM ET, the OnePlus 9 series will be formally launched.
In previous rumors, it said that the OnePlus 9 Pro will feature a curved 1440p 120Hz display along with a 45W fast charging, and reverse wireless charging. We can also expect within the month that other phones from the 9 series will be revealed. Also, it was confirmed that will have 5G connectivity.
Also, along with the announcement of the launch date, it was revealed that OnePlus and Swedish camera maker Hasselblad are partnering up. The company made a three-year deal that would let them “co-develop the next generation of smartphone camera systems for future OnePlus flagship devices.” This includes the 9-series devices and the company has already shared that they already tweaked the cameras’ color reproduction to give a more natural look.
Also, the 9-series will feature the new Sony IMX789 sensor that has 12-bit RAW image capture. This is being utilized by the Samsung S21 Ultra and iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max. This would retain a large amount of data which is helpful especially in post-processing.
As of now, we can just wait on what would the two companies are going to produce for the next three years. OnePlus is not the first by far to partner with a legacy camera brand. Previously, Hasselblad partnered with MotoMod which resulted in a somewhat underwhelming point-and-shoot camera. Hopefully, this partnership would be beneficial for the two companies.
