After nearly two decades, Apple has discontinued the Mac Pro with no plans for future hardware updates.

Apple has already removed the Mac Pro from its website, and the “buy” page for the product now redirects to the Mac’s homepage. A report also suggested that Apple had been planning on discontinuing the Mac Pro for a while now.
To recap, the first Mac Pro was released in 2006 as a replacement for the then-flagship Power Mac G5. The Mac Pro was a desktop tower PC with a modular design that enabled users to change out the PCI expansion cards, optical and storage drives, CPU, and memory. Its design was changed in 2013, making it more compact, but the only upgradeable components were memory and storage.
The current Mac Pro design was introduced in 2019 with an Intel-powered CPU inside, and was refreshed with the M2 Ultra chip in 2023. It has never received further updates since then. Even when newer and more powerful chips were introduced in other models, the Mac Pro kept its high starting price of USD 6,999 (~PHP 423,789).

With the discontinuation of the Mac Pro, Apple is now setting up the Mac Studio as its main desktop for professional users. The Mac Studio can be configured with the M3 Ultra chip with up to a 32-core CPU and up to an 80-core GPU, paired with up to 256GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of SSD storage. A recent update also allowed multiple Macs to be connected, bringing in a new way to scale performance.
Apple’s current desktop lineup now includes the 24-inch iMac, Mac mini, and Mac Studio. Meanwhile, its laptop lineup includes the MacBook Neo, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro.
