LG has spoken and denied putting their rollable phones on hold. According to a spokesperson of LG, they denied the reports that surfaced from Yonhap and said that “I can firmly deny that any such decision on future mobile products has been finalized.” (The Verge)
With the statement, a bit vague, the company however never gave details on the status if they would be moving forward with their project or be placing it on hold for the meantime. Also, no details have not been revealed on when a rollable phone from LG would be available, similar to the prototype they presented at CES 2021, in the market.
It was also reported by TheElec earlier this year that LG is planning to exit the smartphone business which the company denied too. Although a potential buyer has been in talks, there is no concrete decision for now.
If ever the South Korean tech company would exit in the smartphone market, they would still be in the business as they have been contracted by Apple to develop foldable displays. Also, LG is making OLED displays for Apple’s iPhone 12 series.
