The LG 25UM58 has a 21:9 IPS Ultrawide Monitor that offers crisp and sharp display. Why? because it has a 2560 x 1080 resolution in a small but wider screen. And thanks to its IPS panel and 99% sRGB, the colors have accuracy with some color punch.

PROS AND CONS
Before I describe all parts and features of the screen let’s talk about the pros and cons. At first look it has a small screen compared to 16:9 monitors, it is like an 18inch 16:9 monitor but wider, however, the upside is it has a 2560×1080 resolution with 111.14 pixels per inch in a 25″ diagonal screen that means that the pixels are more compact in a smaller display hence, the display is sharper. There are some features and capabilities that this monitor is lacking, unfortunately. But read furthermore to know what this budget monitor can do.
BUILD
The body has a curvy metallic-like glossy finish, yes it is prone to dust however it looks so smooth and shiny. On the back is an embossed LG logo and below it are the 4 screw ports for mounting to a monitor arm stand. Just letting you know, The LG 25UM58 only has a tilt-only stand which means you can’t rotate or swivel it but getting a monitor arm stand will definitely solve that problem and it will be flexible.
Now below the screw holes in the ports, 2 HDMI ports 1 headphone jack, and the 19V DC-IN. It doesn’t have a display port which is a bit of a downside for GPU compatibility. Upfront is the display, and below it is the directional toggle for accessing and controlling the On-Screen Display (OSD).

DISPLAY
The screen size is 25″ in diagonal so as we expected and as we said earlier, it has a smaller but wider screen. The LG 25UM58 has a Full HD IPS LED Monitor and it has strong blacks and contrast are great with a definite viewing angle. LG advertised that it has a 99% sRGB 8bit (16.7m) color space and yes the colors have punch and still producing a natural color. We tried to color grade some photos in Lightroom and exported it, and we viewed the output on other phones with IPS and AMOLED panels and the result is good, the colors we’ve seen on the phones are almost 95% accurate on the monitor. Take note we didn’t adjust the settings, right of the bat we do some color grading so blacks are not that accurate but still colors are good. The response time of this monitor is 5ms which is acceptable to reduce trailing or ghosting of fast-moving object presenting per pixel.
FEATURES
Starting off with the monitor’s capability, it doesn’t offer a higher refresh rate and it doesn’t have AMD FreeSync–which reduces screen tearing–and even if you have a FreeSync compatible graphics card the monitor isn’t compatible with it. But you have to remember that this isn’t a gaming-centric monitor if you want some budget gaming monitor you should check out our LG 144hz 24gl600f Monitor Review. Now back to the topic the LG 25UM58 Ultrawide Monitor has a very low input lag so it is still good for playing video games. However most of the game is at 16:9 and you will see black bars on both sides of the screen as it can’t fill the whole wide viewing, if it does, it will stretch out or crop depending on the settings tweaked. So basically, the screen will be showing the 16:9 part of its 21:9 aspect ratio.

So what is this monitor for? Well, this monitor is better in productivity. Whether you will use it as a Media Consumption or Content Creation. Media consumption such as watching movies, you won’t see any black bars on top and bottom because it already has again a 21:9 cinematic aspect ratio. Content Creation such as Video Editing, Photo Editing, is reliable in this monitor. It has an accurate color reproduction thanks to IPS and sRGB color space you can produce good quality photos, videos, and other content.
And about multitasking, LG offers an OnScreen Control which lets you control brightness, contrast, presets, game modes. Their Screen Split 2.0 which automatically split the screen in 14 different ways for a variety of multitasking window layouts provides easy navigation, multicore process and you don’t need to press alt-tab.

Like we said you still can play games on this monitor but not as smooth as 144hz. So LG provides 6 Preset Modes, FPS 1, FPS 2, RTS, Reader, Photo, and Cinema. This will adjust the display space to suit what you are seeing on this monitor. They also include Black Stabilizer for boosting blacks for better viewing in dark areas perfect for playing FPS games with night time maps. And lastly, Dynamic Action Sync which minimizes input lags so even we don’t get FreeSync we still have optimization on the screen flicker and screen tearing.
PRICE AND CONCLUSION
As it is priced at P12,300, you will get this ultrawide monitor from LG and yes this is the cheapest ultrawide monitor we know so far. You will get a sharp and stunning display, great viewing angles, and reliable features to ensure that you can do certain tasks in an easy and convenient way. And again if you are a gamer focusing on heavy and competitive games, you should get a higher refresh rate monitor. The colors aren’t as good as this type of monitor but the pleasure in the eye is there.
