In another oops moment, the Chinese company was recently spotted claiming DSLR photos were shot on its smartphones. The photos were part of Huawei’s promotional video for its photography contest in which has been updated on Weibo since then. However, it was more than enough time for people on the internet to grab a screenshot.Â
According to the person who discovered the photo, Jamie-Hua, aka Huapeng Zhao, who happened to be the second placer in the 2018 iPhone Photography Awards, she recognized one of the photos in the video and decided to search it up. Her efforts led to finding the original photo which is on the 500px website, a photography community platform. Apparently, the shot was made on a Nikon D850 full-frame camera, by Su Tie, that costs nearly P200,000 today.
Through a Weibo post, Huawei has apologized — citing that the photos were “wrongly marked” due to “an oversight by the editor”. The video has been updated, removing its original claim. Instead, it says that the photo comes from Huawei’s Next-Image community. As explained by the company’s representative, the community can post any photos taken with any equipment.Â
Huawei has been surprisingly consistent when it comes to this kind of blunder. Back in 2016, the company admitted to using a Canon EOS 5D Mark III DSLR to promote the P9 phone. In 2018, nearly the same thing happened with the Nova 3 commercial, this time with the selfie camera. And last year, Huawei used yet again another DSLR photo to market the P30 phone.Â
