The Google Pixel 7 series is now officially available for purchase worldwide. The regular Pixel 7 variant is particularly popular because of its small size and lower pricing. There are, however, several fantastic phones in this price range with even superior hardware than the Pixel 7. Given how the Pixel series has always depended on great software for its processing and photographic ability, many consumers may be perplexed as to which phone to choose in the top pricing range. The second-generation Google Tensor G2 processor, which provides a lot of advancements over the Tensor chip from last year, is one of the greatest changes on the Pixel 7. When compared to its predecessor, there are improvements in both the camera and dimension sectors.
The Galaxy S22, on the other hand, takes a more understated approach to design, with open-design cameras, and a Snapdragon CPU inside, just like most 2022 Android flagships. The backs of the Google Pixel 7 and the Galaxy S22 are extremely different. The Pixel 7 retains the horizontal camera bar at the rear that debuted with the Pixel 6 series, whereas the Galaxy S22 retains its predecessor’s typical open-camera design. However, the two gadgets appear to be diametrically opposed in terms of design. The Pixel 7’s horizontal camera bar is now made of polished aluminum and looks quite nice. It’s a more daring design than the Galaxy S22’s camera, which comprises individual sensors arranged in a vertical alignment.
There are three color options for the Pixel 7: Snow, Obsidian, and Lemongrass. The Galaxy S22, on the other hand, is offered in a variety of more opulent hues, including Black, White, Green, Pink Gold, and Bora Purple. Even in terms of weight, the S22 5G is significantly lighter than the Pixel 7 at 167 grams as opposed to the latter’s 197 grams.
Overall, if you want a tiny flagship phone in 2022, the Galaxy S22 should be at the top of your list. Having said that, the Pixel 7 looks like a rather expensive flagship, and if you like the horizontal metal camera bar on its rear, it will also make a good-looking mini flagship in 2022. At the end of the day, design is always subjective, and your ultimate decision will be based on whether you prefer the back design on the Pixel 7 or the one on the Galaxy S22.
Display
The two phones also differ greatly in terms of their screens. The Galaxy S22 has a significantly smaller 6.1-inch display than the Pixel 7, which has a 6.4-inch display. Both are AMOLED HDR10+ displays with a resolution of 1080 x 2400. The Galaxy S22, on the other hand, has a substantially quicker 120Hz refresh rate compared to the Pixel 7 model’s 90Hz. In terms of peak brightness, the Pixel 7’s 1400 nits are somewhat higher than the Galaxy S22’s 1300 nits. In terms of display, you can’t go wrong with any of them, however, the Galaxy S22 has a little advantage due to its quicker refresh rate.
Camera
The Pixel 7’s camera module is identical to that of its preceding model, with a dual-camera arrangement. The Pixel 7 is equipped with a 50MP primary camera and a 12MP ultra-wide sensor. For selfies and video calls, there’s a 10.8MP f/2.2 sensor camera module on the front. The Galaxy S22, on the other hand, has an even stronger camera module, with a 50MP primary sensor, another 10MP 3X telephoto shooter, and a third 12MP 120° ultrawide camera. The S22 has a 30MP selfie camera with autofocus on the front.
On paper, the Galaxy S22 appears to be the victor. But that is really improbable. Google’s camera algorithms are unrivaled in the industry, thus the photography performance of the Pixel 7’s two cameras should be on pace with or better than the Galaxy S22. The difference, though, is unlikely to be considered, and both phones will provide above-average photography performance in this price range.
Specs & Performance
In terms of computing capability, the Pixel 7 includes the newest Tensor G2 chipset with Titan M2, which outperforms last year’s CPU. The new G2 processor contains two Cortex-X1 cores, two Cortex-A78 cores, and four Cortex-A55 cores. The processor is powerful enough to handle any work thrown at it, but the main draw of this new chipset is its capacity to handle AI and ML. In contrast, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1/Exynos 2200 processor is found within the Galaxy S22. The Tensor G2 may not appear to be a strong CPU on paper, but in fact, both are quite powerful processors, and you will not feel short of processing power when using either device.
Both devices have a single 8GB RAM option for RAM configurations. Both variants come with either 128GB or 256GB of internal UFS 3.1 storage. In terms of software, the Pixel 7 comes pre-installed with Android 13 stock. The Galaxy S22, on the other hand, was released with One UI 4.1.1 based on Android 12 but will soon receive the Android 13 upgrade. On the Pixel 7, Google has pledged at least three OS upgrades and five years of security fixes. For its premium Galaxy S22 series, Samsung has pledged an even better four years of One UI and five years of security upgrades.
Battery
The Pixel 7 comes with a 4335mAh battery that supports 30W fast charging and 15W wireless charging. Despite the smaller battery size, Google claims that the Pixel 7 can survive a whole day and even up to 72 hours in Extreme Battery Saver mode. The Galaxy S22, on the other hand, has a 3700mAh battery with 25W charging and 15W wireless charging. It is worth noting that securing the quickest charging support of 30W will cost you a few more dollars since neither Google nor Samsung provides a charger in most locations.

In the USA, the Pixel 7 is available for $599 (roughly Php34,779). The Galaxy S22, on the other hand, retails for about Php49,990 here in the Philippines.
