The telecommunications giant Globe Telecom Inc., which is run by the Ayala family, started its prepaid fiber internet service on Thursday. This service will be used by people with middle- to low-income.
“The product will change the market and democratize experience and access to fiber here in the Philippines… Around 60% of households don’t have connectivity, not because they don’t want to but because they can’t afford it [since] all plans are postpaid,” Globe president and CEO Ernest Cu said at the launch of GFiber Prepaid in Taguig City.
For a one-time payment of ₱1,499, you can get the service, which includes installation and seven days of free, unlimited internet access.
Fiber prepaid users can sign up for the service’s pay-per-use deals: GFiberSURF299 for seven days, GFiberSURF549 for 15 days, and GFiberSURF999 for 30 days.
The GlobeOne app can be used to get to the prepaid fiber internet service.

Globe’s business head for broadband, Raymond Policarpio, says that with the new prepaid fiber service, the company wants to increase the number of people with broadband internet in the country, which is mostly in the A, B, and C income groups right now.
“Seventy percent of the households are in the D and E markets. There is a huge demand for it. It’s really the affordability and other barriers” said Policarpio. “We think the future of the Globe At Home business lies with GFiber Prepaid,” he added.
