Xiaomi has just launched its newest addition to the Note series, the REDMI Note 17 Series.
The REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G brings several changes over its predecessor, with one notable change being its bigger battery.
However, what else is new? Here’s a quick specs comparison between the two devices.
Design and Build
Both phones share similar overall dimensions. But the REDMI Note 15 Pro+ 5G is thinner and lighter at 8.19mm and around 207 grams, while the Note 17 Pro Max 5G measures up to 8.65mm and weighs 229.5 grams.


Both models have IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings for splash, water, and dust resistance. They also use Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the display.
What Changed?
- Note 17 Pro Max 5G is slightly thicker and heavier.
Display
Both phones use a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 2772 × 1280 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 12-bit color depth, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and 3840Hz PWM dimming.
The Note 15 Pro+ 5G has a listed peak brightness of 3,200 nits, while the Note 17 Pro Max 5G reaches 3,500 nits UHBM and 2,000 nits HBM. The newer model also adds Wet Touch Technology 2.0 and DC dimming.


For touch response, the Note 15 Pro+ 5G supports up to 480Hz touch sampling and 2,560Hz instantaneous touch sampling in Game Turbo.
The Note 17 Pro Max 5G lists up to 240Hz touch sampling and 3,200Hz instantaneous touch sampling in Game Turbo.
What Changed?
- Peak brightness increased from 3,200 to 3,500 nits.
- Wet Touch Technology 2.0 and DC dimming were added.
- Touch sampling changed from up to 480Hz to 240Hz.

Camera
The REDMI Note 15 Pro+ 5G uses a 200MP main camera with OIS, paired with an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 32MP front camera.
The Note 17 Pro Max 5G switches to a 50MP main camera with OIS, along with an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 32MP front camera. Its front camera can record up to 4K at 30fps, while the Note 15 Pro+ 5G is limited to 1080p.


The Note 15 Pro+ 5G’s rear camera supports 4K video at 30fps, while the Note 17 Pro Max 5G also supports 4K at 30fps. The newer model adds features such as Live Moment, Underwater mode, AI image tools, and other camera editing functions.

- Main camera changes from 200MP to 50MP.
- Front camera video recording increases from 1080p to 4K.

Performance
The REDMI Note 15 Pro+ 5G is powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, an octa-core 4nm chipset with speeds of up to 2.7GHz and an Adreno GPU.
The Note 17 Pro Max 5G uses the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, also built on a 4nm process, with CPU speeds of up to 2.6GHz.


The Note 15 Pro+ 5G comes with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage, while the Note 17 Pro Max 5G uses LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage on its 256GB and 512GB variants. The 128GB version uses UFS 2.2.
For software, the Note 15 Pro+ 5G runs Xiaomi HyperOS 2, while the Note 17 Pro Max 5G ships with Xiaomi HyperOS 3.
What Changed?
- Chipset is downgraded from Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 to Snapdragon 6 Gen 5.
- RAM changes from LPDDR4X to LPDDR5X.
- 256GB and 512GB variants move from UFS 2.2 to UFS 4.1.
- Software changes from HyperOS 2 to HyperOS 3.
- RAM options expand from 12GB to up to 16GB.
Battery and Charging
The Note 17 Pro Max 5G has a 10,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, considerably larger than the 6,500mAh battery on the Note 15 Pro+ 5G.
Both phones support 100W wired charging and include a 100W charger based on the listed specifications. The Note 17 Pro Max 5G additionally supports up to 27W wired reverse charging and PD2.0/PD3.0.

The two models take different approaches.
