These days, having a powerful chipset is important, but a large battery is also something we look for in a device.
This is one of the key features of the REDMI Note 17 Pro Max. While it isn’t as powerful as some other smartphones in the same category, it makes up for it with its long battery life.
So, how does it perform as an everyday device? Let’s find out in this review.
Design
The overall aesthetic of the device looks clean and simple. However, it doesn’t really stand out, especially since most smartphones now have a similar overall design.

In terms of size, the phone measures 8.6mm thick and weighs 229.5 grams. Despite its weight, it doesn’t feel like I’m holding a brick. The edges are also soft and rounded, allowing the phone to sit comfortably in my hand.
In addition, the phone comes with an IP68 and IP69K rating, giving it a good level of protection against water and dust.
Display
The REDMI Note 17 Pro Max features a 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a 1280 × 2772 resolution. It also supports a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and up to 3,500 nits of peak brightness.

The display works well for different types of activities. Colors look vibrant when watching videos and other content, while the high refresh rate also makes gaming feel smoother. The slim bezels provide a more immersive viewing experience as well.
There are also no noticeable color shifts when viewing the display from different angles, which is a nice touch.
Outdoor visibility is also good, thanks to its high peak brightness. Details remain visible even when using the phone under direct sunlight.

Performance
As for performance, the device is powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5. Our review unit comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

As a daily driver, the phone performs well. Navigation is smooth and responsive, while apps open quickly. It can also handle light multitasking without much trouble.
However, performance starts to struggle when the device is pushed with heavier workloads.
For gaming, we tested Zenless Zone Zero at low settings with the frame rate set to 60 FPS. The game runs decently, although there are noticeable stutters and frame drops during gameplay. Overall, the experience is still manageable, but this isn’t a device designed for demanding gaming.

Camera

Now that we have performance out of the way, let’s head outside and talk about its camera department.
For its cameras, the device is equipped with a dual-camera setup consisting of a 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultrawide camera. Up front, it has a 32MP selfie camera.
In terms of camera quality, let’s start with daylight photography. The results are good, with sharp and vibrant details. It also produces deep blacks and shadows, giving the photos good contrast. The good thing is that the photos already look good straight out of the camera and don’t need much post-processing.
For low-light photography, the results are decent, although there is some loss of detail and increased noise in darker areas. The colors are well-reproduced, and details are still visible. However, there are times when bright light sources can produce noticeable flares.
For selfies, the 32MP front-facing camera produces good results in well-lit conditions, with decent detail and skin tones.
As for video recording, both the rear and front cameras can record up to 4K at 30 FPS.
Battery and Charging
Now that we have covered the cameras, let’s talk about its battery.
The device is backed by a massive 10,000mAh battery paired with 100W wired charging. With this combination, the REDMI Note 17 Pro Max is clearly focused on providing longer battery life.

When we ran our PCMark battery test, the phone lasted around 30 hours.

Verdict
Overall, the REDMI Note 17 Pro Max is a device that focuses heavily on battery life. It comes with a capable chipset, but performance isn’t its strongest selling point.
Its camera system is also a downgrade from last year’s model, although it remains capable for everyday photography.
So, if you are looking for a full-on gaming phone or a more camera-focused device, this may not be the best option for you.
However, if your priority is getting longer screen time and reliable battery life for everyday use, the REDMI Note 17 Pro Max is worth considering.
