A Consumer Group Calls for J&T’s License to Be Revoked

Due to alleged unlawful business practices, United Filipino Consumers and Commuters (UFCC) has filed a lawsuit against J&T Express.

Dispatch and delivery firms must be licensed by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

According to the consumer group, J&T Express undermines DICT’s efforts to regulate postal services and threatens the Philippine digital economy, one of the country’s primary economic recovery sectors.

It urged DICT to investigate the operations of J&T Express and its franchise partners in Manila, Quezon City, and Caloocan that continue to operate without franchise permits.

Without the proper legal accreditation, consumers are at the mercy of these businesses. They have no recourse if their packages are mishandled, and identifying the perpetrators will be difficult because of the lack of publicly accessible documents,” — said former congressman and UFCC national advisor Jonathan Dela Cruz.

Additionally, Dela Cruz stated, “because of the nature and the gravity of the violations and they’re so widespread, the punishment cannot be less than revocation. Dapat revocation na ng license ‘to,”

DICT Secretary Ivan Uy has yet to see a copy of the complaint.
