
WhatsApp, owned by Meta Platforms, has agreed to be more open about changes to its privacy policy coming in 2021. The European Commission announced this on Monday in response to complaints from European consumer groups.
Last year, the European Consumer Organisation and the European Network of consumer authorities told the messaging app that it had yet to explain the changes in clear language, which was against the law in the bloc.
The national regulators of EU members can punish companies that break the rules.
WhatsApp has now agreed to tell EU users about contract changes and how those changes could affect their rights. It has also decided to make it clear whether users can accept or reject the changes and to make sure that pop-up updates are easy to close.
Meta company stated that they do not share personal information about users with third parties or other Meta companies, such as Facebook, for advertising purposes.
