Dapa, Siargao, was the site of the PDSCN’s successful Siargao landing on September 22. Things are becoming interesting with last July’s historic cable landing in Subic.
For the uninitiated, the PDSCN is a collaboration between Japanese broadband company InfiniVan, Philippine companies Globe Telecom and Eastern Communications, and other Asian countries.
The landing on Siargao is the fifth of the 24 segments to be finished.
This cooperative endeavor will reportedly cost USD150 million (about Php8.8 billion) and cover a distance of around 2,500 kilometers. Following its completion, widespread high-speed internet access across the Philippines is anticipated.
By the end of the year, both the Express and Western lines should be ready for use. It will link the islands of Mindanao, Visayas, and Luzon. As for the rest of the Easter routes, they must be completed by April 2023.
The project’s goal is not only to increase the number of homes with internet access on the major islands of the Philippines but also to increase the number of tourists visiting these areas.
According to Alberto Espedido, CTO of InfiniVAN, the project’s fiber-optic cable is future-proof.
This is the largest and longest submarine cable installation in the Philippines.
The 96-core fiber cables used in the project are future-proof and can support massive data transfers for at least 25 years.
