On February 9, Samsung has announced the new Galaxy S22 series. The cheapest, the Galaxy S22 5G brings under the hood a powerful technical sheet and improvements compared to its predecessor, as it is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or MediaTek Exynos 2200 chipsets (market dependent), and 8GB of RAM.
Last Friday, the device was evaluated in repairability and resistance tests carried out by PBKreviews, a popular YouTube channel known for carrying several smartphones to quality tests.

As shown in the video, the back cover of the Galaxy S22 kept the same characteristic as the Galaxy S21 and can be easily removed using a plastic spatula, that dispenses the use of a heat gun – equipment necessary to melt the glue and disconnect the protection in some smartphones.
Accessing the internal hardware we came across a total of nineteen cross-slotted screws that secure the modules to the motherboard. The first component to be removed is the induction charging system, which covers both the battery and other parts of the smartphone.
Unlike competitors, the Galaxy S22’s triple-camera module can be easily taken out for repair by simply unplugging all cables and pulling out the module. The arrangement of the sensors follows the order: ultrawide with 12MP resolution, 50MP main (f/1.8 aperture and OIS), and 10MP telephoto with 3X optical zoom.
Moving on to the rest of the disassembly process, removing the battery is not so simple and requires isopropyl alcohol to dissolve part of the glue that holds the component to the device’s structure, being necessary to use the spatula to support and remove the battery with 3,700 mAh capacity from the device.
According to the YouTuber, the device is easy to repair and received a score of 7.5/10 in terms of internal complexity and component layout. It is expected that the other versions will also be disassembled soon.

According to the brand, the Galaxy S22 5G has an IP68 certification that guarantees water resistance up to 3 meters deep, ensuring that the phone will not be damaged when dropped into a pool or is wet by rain, a statement that was analyzed by the channel.
The device was submerged in a container approximately 6 cm deep for one minute and survived without damage to the speakers, screen, or cameras. Despite not being damaged, the smartphone showed ghosting on the display while underwater.
Another aspect evaluated was the screen’s resistance to scratches and scratches, since the model has Corning Gorilla Glass Victus Plus protection that guarantees greater resistance to damage to the display.
According to the test, the Galaxy S22’s 6.1-inch screen supported up to the seventh level and was severely scratched only in the eighth degree of durability, a performance that fell on the back cover that is also made of glass, being affected from the fourth degree of hardness. The cameras also have good scratch resistance, but the same does not apply to the aluminum edges.
