You’d think that Samsung stopped releasing Galaxy J7 variants until they unveiled another version of the model just this week, the Samsung Galaxy J7+ Plus. But how does it compare to its J7 sibling, the J7 Pro when it comes to camera, specs, and performance?
Design
Being in the J7 family, both phones share the same design as their siblings. The only distinguishable features between the two phones are the sim trays, two on the J7 Pro and a hybrid sim tray for the J7 Plus. Antennae placements are also the same being only different in shape. Lastly are the Dual cameras for the J7 Plus with its flash just below it while the J7 Pro having a single camera and a flash placed in the same fashion.
Aside from that, every other design elements are the same from the button placements, front cameras, and speakers. The J7 Pro is a gram lighter than the J7 Plus and both phones definitely feel like a J7 Phone when you hold it in your hands. With both phones having a striking resemblance I’d have to give this one a tie.
Display
When it comes to displaying, specs are exactly the same on paper both have a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED Display and a 1080p resolution, brightness levels are also the same and are clearly visible in direct sunlight. So, like its design, this category also lands a tie.
Camera
Here’s where both the J7s are different in specs. On paper, the J7 Pro has a 13MP rear camera while J7 Plus has a dual 13 MP rear camera. Both cameras produce sharp and detailed quality photos, the only difference is that the J7 Plus has more accurate colors and a depth effect called live focus.
Front camera shots are almost indistinguishable with the J7 Plus being 3MP higher than the J7 Pro and producing well-balanced selfies as seen in the shadows as compared to the J7 Pro. The recording is both at 1080p with a 30fps cap and with decent quality at best. With that being said this round goes to the J7 Plus.
Chipset/Processor/Rom
The J7 Pro is powered by an Exynos 7870 with 3GB of Ram while the J7 Plus has a chipset of Octa-core 2.4 with 4GB of RAM both running on Nougat. Using the following benchmarking tools, we received these results in the process:
Device | AnTuTu | Geekbench (single-core) | Geekbench (multi-core) | PCMark Work 2.0 |
Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro | 47941 | 732 | 3706 | 3780 |
Samsung Galaxy J7 Plus | 63201 | 872 | 3613 | 3792 |
With the J7 Plus having a higher chipset than the J7 Pro, gaming is significantly better with the higher quality and framerate than its younger sibling. Either way, you’ll get a decent gaming experience still, with the J7 Pro. Fingerprint scanners on both phones are at a 10/10 performance both being equally responsive with a tap. When it comes to performance the J7 Plus takes the cake.
Battery
Through our ManilaShaker Battery Rating, we can confirm the following overall lifespan of both devices:
Device | Battery | Battery Time | Charging-Time |
Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro | 3600 mAh | 46h 36m | 2h 38m |
Samsung Galaxy J7 Plus | 3000 mAh | 38h 20m | 2h 14m |
Audio
Really there is nothing special with both J7s speakers and they are practically at par on paper. Both were located on the right side and having the same quality and loudness, hear for yourselves. Having heard their audio, there’s nothing to do but give this category a tie.
Price
Both the Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro and J7 Plus are available in local and online stores with the J7 Pro retailing at $320 or ₱15,990.00 while the J7 Plus at $390 or ₱19,990.00, although prices will differ in countries after taxes. Overall with a minimal difference in specs, the J7 Plus wins this comparison review. How about you? Which J7 suits you the most? Comment down below what you think.
