After the launch of the realme 14 Pro Series in the Philippines, the brand has officially introduced its vanilla variant for the local market — the realme 14 5G.
It has a different look and a different purpose. So today, we are going to take a look at the realme 14 5G and see if it’s a better alternative than its bigger brother. Let’s find out!
Starting with the design and build. The realme 14 5G that we have comes in the Mecha Silver color variant.
You can already tell that this is designed to be a gaming smartphone. As you can see, it features a design that looks like something you’d see in science fiction movies.
It also has geometric lines on the back cover, but despite this, the device remains smooth to the touch and is not prone to fingerprint smudges. Apart from that, there is an orange power button to add a subtle contrast and give a futuristic accent.
As for its dimensions, the realme 14 5G weighs 196 grams, which is a bit on the heavy side, and it has a thickness of 8mm.
Around the frame, the volume rocker and power button are placed on the right side, up top is a speaker, and at the bottom are the SIM tray, USB-C port, microphone, and another speaker grille.
The device is protected by IP68 and IP69 ratings, making it fully dust-proof and capable of withstanding high-temperature and high-pressure water.
Flipping over the device, the realme 14 5G boasts a 6.67″ FHD+ AMOLED display paired with a 120Hz refresh rate.
Using it for entertainment, it produces decent viewing angles, with visible color shifts when viewed from different sides.
Bezels are also slim, which is great when you are binge-watching your favorite shows. Outdoor use is not going to be a problem either, since it offers up to 2000 nits of peak brightness — even if you are using it under direct sunlight, you won’t have any problems at all.
As for its camera department, it looks like this device features a dual-camera setup, but it only has a single 50MP OIS rear camera. The punch-hole cutout on the front houses a 16MP selfie shooter.
Rear Camera Sample Shots
When it comes to the performance of its rear camera, it captures images with a wide dynamic range and vibrant colors. It delivers sharp details, though it tends to show deeper shadows. Here are some sample shots.
For low-light photography, it captures great images as long as there is an ample amount of light. Details are visible along with decent color saturation.
Front Camera Sample Shots
As for its selfie camera, it delivers true-to-life skin tones. However, even with the beauty effects turned off, we still noticed some softness in the facial features.
When it comes to video recording, the rear camera can shoot up to 4K@30FPS with Ultra Steady off, and 1080P@60FPS with Ultra Steady on. Meanwhile, the front camera can record up to 1080P@30FPS, with or without Ultra Steady turned on.
With the cameras out of the way, let’s talk about its power. Under the hood, it is powered by a 4nm Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 processor. Our review unit comes with 12GB of RAM, expandable by an additional 14GB, and 256GB of internal storage.
Out of the box, this device runs on Android 15, layered with realme UI 6.0.
In terms of multitasking, the realme 14 5G handles it well. During our time with the device, we never encountered any slowdowns, even when using multiple applications at once.
The realme 14 5G is equipped with a VC Cooling System and GT Boost for added thermal and performance management. And since this is a gaming-focused device, we also tried playing Mobile Legends — and it handled it perfectly.
There were no stutters or frame drops even during clashes, which is good. Here are some of its benchmark results.
We also have an upcoming full gaming review for this device, so stay tuned.
Now, let’s take a look at its battery. The realme 14 5G is backed by a 6000mAh battery paired with 45W fast charging.
During our video loop test, it lasted about 14 hours and 33 minutes. As for charging from 0 to 100%, it took roughly 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Finally, for its price, the realme 14 5G is priced at PHP 17,999 for the 12GB + 256GB configuration.
Overall, it is a decent device for your day-to-day needs. Although it doesn’t have the same camera performance as its big brother, it still offers the same user experience.
Design-wise, it also looks unique, which helps it stand out against other devices in this price range. They could have opted for a better chipset for an even better overall experience. Still, if you want to experience the realme UI ecosystem but don’t have the budget to opt for the 14 Pro+, the realme 14 5G is not a bad option.
