Nubia is a gaming brand created by ZTE which caters to China’s market. Last month, the company released its flagship Red Magic 5G with an incredible 144Hz display and up to 16GB RAM for ~P27K. This time, the brand is taking on the premium market where affordable 5G connectivity reigns. Dubbed as Nubia Play 5G, the affordable gaming phone is equipped with the same fast panel but paired with Snapdragon 765G to keep the price starting at CNY 2399(~P17K) for the 6GB/128GB variant. The 8GB/128GB and 8GB/258GB models cost CNY 2699(~P19K) and CNY 2999(~P21,500), respectively. Available in black, blue, and white colors, shipping will start April 24.
Like the bigger sibling, Nubia Play 5G features a glass-metal-glass design with a loud gaming finish on the back. There’s no fingerprint scanner on the back as it’s embedded in the display. ZTE was also generous enough to include shoulder buttons on the device to make gaming, especially FPS games, a lot easier to control. Further assisting in competitive gaming is the 240Hz touch sampling rate and non-distracting display, thanks to the removal of a notch or pinhole cutout. No, the 16MP isn’t of pop-up mechanism but instead, there’s a reasonably sized bezel on the top of the FHD+ AMOLED. Aside from dual-stereo speakers and DTS Audio, the ICE 2.5 cooling system which features 61mm liquid-cooling pipe is present as well. Unfortunately, there’s no headphone jack. The battery of Nubia Play 5G can last a day or two depending on your usage, due to the 5100mAH capacity. It also supports 30W fast charging which is compatible with Power Delivery and Quick Charge.
Among the Snapdragon 765-based phones, would you opt for Nubia Play 5G if you’re a gamer?
