Nothing CEO Carl Pei has shared a video spotlighting the unfulfilled potential of the Nothing Power (1) charger, which never made it to market. The Power (1) was designed to be a versatile charger and power bank capable of simultaneously charging multiple devices, featuring a transparent design reminiscent of the Nothing Ear (2).

In the video, the prototype of the Power (1) is displayed, showcasing Nothing’s signature transparent appearance. It comes with a large Qi charging coil on top for wireless charging and USB-C and USB-A ports at the back, allowing it to charge three devices at once. Additionally, it has a built-in battery, doubling as a portable power bank.

Unfortunately, the transparent plastic housing of the Power (1) proved to be fragile and unable to withstand drops. The integrated battery made the device significantly heavier, and temperature control issues arose during development, particularly when charging through USB and wirelessly simultaneously.

These housing and temperature challenges prevented the Nothing Power (1) from becoming a commercial product. Nothing has since introduced a high-speed GaN charger, though less ambitious than the Power (1). Interestingly, Apple’s AirPower charger faced a similar fate, ultimately getting canceled after years of delays.

So, what do you think about the journey of the Nothing Power (1) and its challenges? Share your thoughts!
