Google Tap to Share May Come to Android 17

Google Tap to Share

Google is developing a new feature called Tap to Share.

The upcoming feature aims to simplify file sharing between Android devices using near-field communication (NFC).

With this, users will be able to share contacts, photos, videos, links, and other files by simply tapping two phones together.

Both devices must be unlocked, and users need to align the top portions of the phones to ensure the NFC antennas connect properly.

According to reports, the feature will appear as a dedicated option in the sharing menu. A visual animation will confirm when a connection is established. If the attempt fails, users may need to reposition the devices or try again.

Some reports also indicate that early versions of the feature have appeared in test builds, including Samsung’s One UI, pointing to a possible wider rollout across Android devices once the software is finalized.

If released, Tap to Share could make sharing between Android phones faster and more consistent, though performance may vary depending on hardware support, such as NFC availability.

The Google Tap to Share feature is expected to roll out as part of Android 17 and will be integrated into the company’s Quick Share system.
