Motorola Edge+ Launched: 90Hz OLED

Motorola is re-entering the premium market after gambling with the Moto Mods for the past recent years. The Motorola Edge+ is the company’s newest flagship phone in 2020 and comes with a price of $999(~P50,000). Exclusive to Verizon, the Edge+ features a 108MP camera that might rival the Galaxy S20 Ultra along with a large screen and battery. It will become available starting May 14th in the US and in Smoky Sangria and Thunder Grey colors.

The Motorola Edge+ is a sleeper, flagship phone

Seeing the package offered by the Edge+, one can easily say that it’s the complete flagship package for a price. The 6.7″ screen is of AMOLED with support for 90Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ playback. The side curves drastically to 90 degrees to which Moto said is intentional. Apparently, it lets you double-tap the side to trigger the screen’s edges and add two touchscreen shoulder buttons when playing games. It’s good to know that you can turn off the edges if you’re frustrated with palm touches.

Motorola is offering the Edge+ in one model only and that models come with a whopping 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. There’s no option to expand here but the pairing is more than enough for the next two years. Camera-wise, the Edge+ is only the second flagship phone with a 108MP sensor. However, it’s not entirely the same sensor as the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Aside from that, you get 8MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom and OIS, 16MP ultrawide, and 3D depth-sensing — all in a large camera hump. While you can’t record 8K videos with the Edge+, it does support 6K video recording which is an excellent middle ground for those who want better detail quality than 4K.

Edge+ battery life should be stellar thanks to the 5000mAh capacity. While it doesn’t fast charge as the OnePlus 8 Pro, it does support 15W wired and wireless charging, alongside 5W reverse wireless. This is the first time Moto is re-introducing its skin as “My UX”. It’s essentially stock Android with added Moto Actions.

Motorola’s newest flagship phone offers a ton for a reasonable price. It even comes with a headphone jack and stereo speakers. But if there’s one caveat here that is the hefty build. Edge+ is one of the thickest phones out there at 9.66mm. On the flip end, the 203g weight is below the iPhone 11 Pro Max’s 226g.

Honestly, Motorola Edge+ is a competitive phone. Sure, the design looks boring but it won’t matter when you usually slap a case on it. If we’re to describe this device, it feels like a ZTE phone but made for the US. And yes, it supports 5G mmWave and sub-6GHz.
