OnePlus 8 Pro is now official and it’s already looking like a true flagship phone in 2020. With an official IP rating and wireless charging in tow, as well as arguably the best mobile display on the market, is it enough to make you purchase OnePlus’ most expensive device to date which comes with a price of $899(~P45K) for the 8GB/128GB model? It’s also the first time the company is pricing its phone at $999(~P50K) for the 12GB/256GB top model. But first, let’s have a specs rundown.
If not the for the larger footprint, OnePlus 8 Pro could be easily mistaken as the vanilla OnePlus 8 due to the intense similarities in design. At 6.78″, the display gets bumped to 120Hz and QHD+ resolution. Unlike Samsung Galaxy S20 Series, you’re free to drain the battery to death with the best setting possible. The device is a hefty one, clocking in at 199g and 8.5mm. As per usual, it carries the best Qualcomm chipset available which is the Snapdragon 865. It also means 5G mmWave and sub-6Ghz connections are present.
There’s no pop-up camera here as the 16MP f2.5 selfie camera is within a pinhole cutout. Flip the device over and it’s still the same slim, rectangular camera module. But technically speaking, the cameras are better than ever. The 48MP f1.8 Sony sensor features omnidirectional PDAF and OIS that should put in nearly on-par with Huawei P40 Pro+. Another 48MP f2.2 is present for ultrawide angle shots. An 8MP f2.4 telephoto provides both OIS and up to 3x optical zoom while a 5MP f2.4 is said to add “color filters” to the photos. Video recording is capped at 4K@60fps. No 4K recording for the selfie camera, though.
The battery is rated 4510mAh and might not be enough for the power-hungry screen. On the flip end, you do get the benefit of 30W Warp Charge(50% in 23mins) and 30W wireless charging(50% in 30mins). Also, OnePlus did bother to include reverse wireless at a mere 3W. For the first time, OnePlus 8 Pro comes with official IP68 water and dust resistance. This should give owners more confidence when diving with the device.
