As scheduled, Pete Lau has made the OnePlus 8 Series official. Before we dwell into the OnePlus 8 Pro, let’s start first with the least expensive device. The OnePlus 8 comes in two price configurations — 8GB/128GB and in Glacial Green and Onyx Black for $699(~P35K) and 12GB/256GB in Interstellar Glow for $799(~P40K). Between the two, we feel like the top model is the way to go given its unique color hue on the back that reminds us of the Galaxy Note 10. However, a few design changes separate the OnePlus 8 from its predecessors.
OnePlus 8 is now sporting a curved glass on both front and back with Gorilla Glass 5 for protection. The glass-metal-glass slab is slightly lighter than the OnePlus 7T while retaining the 6.55″ FHD+ 90Hz display. As per usual, there’s no expandable slot here. The Snapdragon 865 is the main component of the device which allows 5G connectivity. OnePlus touted that it works on both mmWave and sub-6Ghz, however, most parts of the world will use the latter. If you’re in it for the cameras, the OnePlus 8 might feel a bit of a downgrade. The main shooter still uses a 48MP f1.8 Sony sensor along with a 16MP f2.2 ultrawide, however, it ditches the 12MP telephoto lens found on the 7T for a 2MP f2.4 macro lens. On the flip end, the 16MP f2.0 selfie camera stays the same but in a pinhole cutout already.
The larger 4300mAh battery should last you longer now compared to the 3800mAH from last year. The same 30W Warp Charge is present which gets you up to 50% in 22 minutes only. As for the rest of the features of OnePlus 8, it has Wi-Fi 6, stereo speakers, NFC, and in-display fingerprint scanner. Digital Walker Philippines is expected to bring the OnePlus 8 Series to the country. While we wait for that announcement, check out OnePlus 8 Pro which brings the company’s first IP rating and wireless charging.
