Instagram will soon be introducing a new filter that will block hateful and abusive DMs to the next level. The app states how they would address in preventing hateful and abusive DMs in the first place which was said in their recent blog post.
Most of the time, these messages come from DM requests from people you haven’t interacted with. Also, these may be individuals you don’t even follow or even follow you. Instagram stated that they plan to block these kinds of messages through the use of filtering a list of keywords as well as emojis. To accomplish this, Instagram is partnering with anti-discrimination and anti-bullying organizations.
For you to block these certain DMs, you can head over to the new section Privacy Settings named “Hidden Words.” From here on, you will be able to see filtered DM requests in a separate hidden requests folder. You can only read the message once you tap it and will give you the option to accept it, delete it, or report the message.
Also, Instagram is giving blocked users a pretty difficult time. Once you blocked an individual in the app, there will be an option for you to block any new accounts the blocked user makes. This is to discourage the blocked user to further contact you. However, Instagram did not go into detail on how they can track the same user in creating a new account but the extra effort the company is making is surely commendable.
We can expect the new DM filter to come in the next few weeks while it will be also rolling out in more countries. On the other hand, the new account blocking feature will be available within the coming weeks worldwide.
