Facebook automatically adds alternative text (alt text) to photographs you submit, but the descriptions aren’t always correct. You may make your photographs more accessible to visually impaired people by providing proper alt text for your images. Here’s how.

To add alt text to a picture you’re uploading using the Facebook mobile app, launch the app on your smartphone, create a new Facebook post, and then pick a photo from your device to upload as you usually would. Tap the three dots in the top-right corner of the image to see the post preview.
At the bottom of your screen, a menu will appear. Tap the “Edit Alt Text” button here.
You’ll now be on the Change Alt Text screen. Enter the text that appropriately describes the image you’re submitting in the text box below your image. Then, touch “Done.”
The alt text is now added to the photo.
Open Facebook in any browser and begin generating a new post with an image as you normally would. Then, in the post preview, click “Edit” in the image’s top-left corner.
The Photo Detail window will be shown. In the left-hand pane, click “Alternative Text” at the bottom of the menu.
The choice for Alternative Text will enlarge. To pick the “Custom Alt Text” option, click the bubble next to it, and then input the alt text for your image in the text box.
Now click the blue “Save” button at the bottom of the window.
Your photo now has alt text.
Adding alt text to your images helps your friends who use screen readers understand what the image is about. You may also add alt text to your photographs in Microsoft Word to make your professional documents more accessible.
